Duties
A Contract Field Inspector is mainly deployed on (a) collection and analysis of fisheries production data, conducting market surveys, processing licence applications, providing technical and administrative support for fisheries related ex-gratia allowances; (b) performing duties related to fish specimen collection and identification, fisheries studies, surveys and laboratory analysis, water quality monitoring, fisheries development, extension and liaison, fisheries licensing and law enforcement, training of fishermen, extension of fisheries technologies, management and operation of experimental fish farms, education and publicity on fisheries conservation; (c) performing duties related to management, monitoring and law enforcement work for marine parks/marine reserve; (d) performing duties related to surveys, studies, education and publicity on conservation of marine biodiversity; (e) performing duties related to the administration and monitoring of fisheries loans and grants; and (f) performing any other duties as may be assigned by supervisors.
(Note : Required to work in the rural areas and irregular hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays, stay overnight away from their base, and spend time at sea on departmental/commercial fishing vessels/fish raft/ fish farms.)
Entry Requirements
A candidate should have (a)(i) a Bachelor degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent; majoring in natural science, marine ecology, mechanical/marine engineering, environmental management, or environmental science; or (ii) a Diploma or Certificate for Laboratory Technician or in applied science or a related subject from a Hong Kong polytechnic/polytechnic university or Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education/technical college/technical institute, or equivalent; or (iii) a Diploma or Higher Certificate in natural science, marine ecology, mechanical/marine engineering, management studies, applied science or a related subject from a Hong Kong polytechnic/polytechnic university or Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education/technical college/technical institute, or equivalent; or (iv) obtained a recognized diploma from a post-secondary fisheries school/college, or equivalent and one year of relevant or related post-qualification experience; and (b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent.
(Note : (1) ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE. (2) Candidate with driving licence / SCUBA diving certificate / Qualification on Pleasure Vessel Operator Certificate of Competency Grade 2 or above / knowledge on data statistical treatment is preferred. )
Terms of Appointment
Successful candidates will be appointed on 1 year non-civil service contract terms.
General Notes
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(f) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria.
(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the above enquiry address.

(i) The new version of application form for Government jobs G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) has been in use with effect from 26 July 2023. Candidates who apply for Government jobs advertised on or after 26 July 2023 should use the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023). If candidates submit the old version form (G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)), they will be required to fill in the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) afresh and submit it within seven days upon request. If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will not be processed further.

Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centre of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Completed forms should reach the enquiry address of the recruiting department on or before the closing date for application. Please mark on envelope the title of the job applied for. On-line application can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions / Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority should deliver or send by post copies of their official transcripts, diplomas / certificates and other relevant qualification documents to the department at the enquiry address within one week after close of application (please clearly state the on-line application number on every page of the documents). Applications which are incomplete, late or submitted by fax / email will not be considered. Please ensure that sufficient postage is paid if the completed application form and required supporting documents are sent by post. Underpaid mail items will not be delivered by Hongkong Post. Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about ten to twelve weeks from the closing date for application.
