Duties
A Laboratory Technician III is mainly deployed on undergoing on-the-job training for 3 years and assisting in carrying out conservation/science related technical and laboratory work in the museums/film archive.
(Notes:
(i) May be required to perform shift duties and work irregular hours.
(ii) Members of the grade are subject to posting and transfer and work in remote areas at the discretion of the Head of Department.)
Salary
Training Pay Scale Point 4 (HK$16,510 per month) to Training Pay Scale Point 6 (HK$18,730 per month)
Entry Requirements
Candidates should have-
(a) (i) Level 2 or equivalent or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) including –
(1) Chemistry; and
(2) one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Combined Science (Physics & Biology), Design & Applied Technology or Information & Communication Technology, or equivalent; or
(ii) Level 2 / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) including –
(1) Chemistry; and
(2) one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Computer and Information Technology or Design and Technology, or equivalent;
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent; and
(c) a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test.
Entry Requirements (Note)
(i) The subjects in (a) above may include Chinese Language and English Language.
(ii) Candidates should state clearly in their applications their full record of employment, academic qualifications and Chinese and English languages proficiency level. Applications which did not provide all information as requested or which are not clear that the candidates have met the entry requirements will not be considered.
(iii) All qualifications required should be obtained on or before the application deadline. Qualifications obtained after the application deadline will not be considered.
(iv) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law and National Security Law Test will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test or have not attained a pass result in the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test during the recruitment process.
Terms of Appointment
A new appointee will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
General Notes
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(g) Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the recruiting department may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the first selection process (i.e. trade test).
(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the first selection process (i.e. trade test) without being subject to further shortlisting. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. (i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit all copies of their official transcripts of studies and certificates by email to lt3_recruitment@lcsd.gov.hk on or before 9 October 2025. Candidates should mark “For application of Laboratory Technician III” and quote the on-line application number on the copies of every page of supporting documents.
(j) Towards the application deadline, our on-line system would likely be overloaded due to large volume of applications. To ensure timely completion of your on-line application, it is advisable to submit the application as early as possible.

Applications which are incomplete or submitted in person, by post, by fax or by e-mail will not be accepted.
For qualifications awarded by local institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, copies of the official transcripts of studies and certificates are not required to be submitted at this stage of application. Candidates who are invited for selection interview will be required to produce the original copies of the official transcripts, certificates and proof of relevant working experience for verification and photocopies for record purposes. The application will be deemed unsuccessful if any applicant fails to produce the original copies of the required documents for verification.
Candidates who are selected for the first selection process (i.e. trade test) will normally receive an invitation in about twelve to fifteen weeks from the closing date for application. This period may be longer in exceptional circumstances, e.g. when a large number of applications are received or when there are other complications. Those who are not invited for trade test may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
