Duties

The Contract Assistant Chef in the Chief Secretary for Administration’s Official Residence (the Residence) is mainly deployed on -
(a) preparing food and providing cooking service to the Chief Secretary for Administration, his family and guests;
(b) providing meals for both official and social functions in the Residence and any other places as required;
(c) undertaking daily kitchen operation, including handling food, purchasing food and ingredients, cleaning the kitchen and maintaining cooking utensils; and
(d) performing duties assigned by Head Chef and senior officers.
(Note: The Contract Assistant Chef in the Residence is required to wear uniform and to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays. He/She may also be required to work overtime and stay overnight in the Residence on a need basis.)

Salary

$23,585 - $26,590 per month, subject to the number of years of relevant working experience

Entry Requirements

Candidates should -
(a) have at least 5 years' working experience in cooking in a large household or establishment;
(b) be competent in Chinese and Western cuisine and
(c) be able to speak fluent Cantonese, simple English and Putonghua; and able to read and write simple Chinese and English.
(Note: Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.)

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for a period of two years.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

Application forms [G.F.340 (Rev. 7/2023)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (https://www.csb.gov.hk). Applications together with copies of relevant documents should be submitted via one of the following means –
(a) by post to the Personnel Office, Departmental Administration Unit, Administration Wing, Room 2561, 25/F, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong, with the envelope clearly marked “Application for the position of Contract Assistant Chef (Chief Secretary for Administration’s Official Residence)” (the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of submission of application). To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Office and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage; or
(b) by hand to the application drop-in box of Administration Wing located at the Staff Entrance, 2/F., East Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong, with the envelope clearly marked “Application for the position of Contract Assistant Chef (Chief Secretary for Administration’s Official Residence)”. The drop-in box is available from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday (except public holidays) and up till 5:00 p.m. on the closing date of application; or
(c) through on-line facilities on the Civil Service Bureau homepage at https://www.csb.gov.hk. Candidates who applied online should submit copies of supporting documents not later than one week after the close of application to the contact address and the online application number should be quoted on the envelope and the copies of all supporting documents.
Applications which are incomplete, late or submitted by fax or email, or not made in the prescribed form, or without required documents will not be considered.
Applicants should provide their email addresses on the application forms. Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about eight weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
